Indian Embassy is the primary point of contact for Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin in Germany when it comes to India-related official matters and consular services. In addition to the Embassy, there are three Consulates General located in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich. They have also clearly defined official jurisdictions.  Neither the Embassy nor the Consulates will interfere in the matters falling in the jurisdiction of the others.

Mrs. Mukta Dutta Tomar is the current Ambassador of India in Berlin.

Jurisdictions: 

Indian Embassy: Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MVP), Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia 

CGI Frankfurt: Hesse, North-Rhine Westfalia, Rhine Land Palatinate and Saarland

CGI Hamburg: Bremen, Hamburg, Lower-Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein

CGI Munich: Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. 

The jurisdictions are observed very strictly for providing the services. 

Consular Services: The web pages of the Embassy and the Consulates provide all the necessary information about the services like issue of passports, visas, OCI, attestation, registration of birth of a minor child, miscellaneous services etc. as well as the details for payment of the fees. Applications can also made by post, provided all prescribed documents are submitted and the fees have been paid. The Embassy is open to the public only between 0930-1230 hrs on working days. Due to Corona restrictions a visit to the Embassy requires prior appointment. 

The web pages of the Embassy/Consulate also provide information about holidays, on which the Embassy/Consulates will remain closed. 

Complaints: The Ministry of External Affairs has a portal called MADAD at which one can register online grievances pertaining to the Consular Services offered by the Indian Missions/Posts abroad.

Registration: Indian students studying/planning to study abroad, may also register themselves on the MADAD portal to facilitate contact by the nearest Indian Missions/Posts, if need arises. MADAD enables online logging and tracking of grievances, and submission of course/contact details of students. 

Indian Community Welfare Fund: The Embassy has also an Indian Community Welfare Fund for the Indians in distress in foreign countries. 

The Cultural Activities: The Embassy of India in Berlin holds regular cultural events which is freely accessible to the public. These have been temporarily suspended due to Corona-19 infection.

INDCC: INDCC is an umbrella organization which was formed in the early eighties for celebrating the Indian National Days.  The Embassy has recently started to increase its engagement with the Indian Associations in Berlin. The aim is to organize the Associations under the umbrella organization ‘INDCC’ in order to promote cooperation of the Indian Associations in various areas. Embassy plans to hold a quarterly meeting of the Presidents of the Indian Associations at the embassy.  The Embassy also provides financial assistance for the National Day Celebration functions organized by the INDCC.  

Flights to India and from India to Germany:  Despite Corona restrictions, there are regular Air India and Lufthansa flights operating for people who are required to travel due to unavoidable circumstances.  For flights, one has to check the websites of Air India and Lufthansa for online booking and detailed information. Registration at https://repat.videshapps.gov.in/user_registration  is mandatory for availing of these flights.
